Building a Strategic Business Case for Community Engagement

According to the Harvard Business Review, Community connection is the fourth most impactful process on employee motivation behind Role Definition, Organizational Identity (Mission/Vision) and Career Ladders. It has a larger effect on motivation than Compensation, Leadership, Workforce/Resource Planning, and Performance Review. Hear from Leadership Springfield Executive Director Carrie Richardson and Board President Don Harkey (People Centric Consulting Group) as they walk through tangible ways local HR professionals can be strategic business leaders, partnering with others within their organization and impacting the operational mission, vision and goals.

Carrie Richardson, Executive Director of Leadership Springfield

Carrie Richardson is Executive Director of Leadership Springfield. Prior to joining Leadership Springfield, she spent a decade in health care administration and several years in nonprofit development and grant writing. Carrie is a graduate of Leadership Springfield Class 25 and has served on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association of Southwest Missouri, Greene County Drug Endangered Children Alliance and Greene County Children’s Division Advisory Council. With a bachelors in communications from Drury University, Carrie is currently completing her masters in nonprofit and civic leadership at Drury. She has been married for 15 years and has three sons. Carrie began as the first Executive Director of Leadership Springfield in July 2018 and was named one of SBJ’s 12 People to Know in 2019.


Don Harkey, Owner/CEO of People Centric Consulting & Board President of Leadership Springfield

Don Harkey is the Owner and Chief Executive Officer of People Centric Consulting Group based in Springfield, Missouri. People Centric partners with organizations to implement strategic and tactical processes that create high performance cultures. They provide strategic planning, consulting, professional development, business analysis, succession planning, among many other services. Don holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and spent 10 years working for Fortune 500 companies (Archer Daniels Midland and 3M) where he developed his skills helping people to improve processes. At ADM he worked as a shift supervisor at one of the largest corn processing plants in the world. At 3M, he managed millions of dollars in capital projects as a senior corporate engineer. Looking to leave life inside a large corporation, he jumped into the world of business consulting in 2005. Don has worked with a variety of organizations successfully implementing systems that improve employee engagement and profitability.
