SPRINGFIELD AREA HUMAN RESOURCES ASSOCIATION

Member FAQs

Q. What do my annual membership dues provide?

A. Your dues payment gets you access to the network of SAHRA which opens the door for knowledge and information sharing with over 300 HR professionals in the Springfield Metro area. Also included are the following benefits.

  • Membership Programs: At SAHRA monthly programs, regional and national speakers provide members with up-to-date information to help them with their work as human resource professionals. In addition, seminars and workshops provide members with opportunities to learn about specific topics, practice hands-on-skills, and to exchange ideas and discuss problems and solutions. Monthly programs, workshops and seminars are all provided for a nominal fee and typically qualify for SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and HRCI (PHR, SPHR, GPHR) recertification credit.
  • Professional DevelopmentIn addition to the professional development gained through SAHRA’s monthly programs, semi-annual professional development events are also offered. These events are typically scheduled in a half-day format and generally qualify for SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and HRCI (PHR, SPHR, GPHR) recertification credit.  Professional development events are also provided for a nominal fee.
  • Publications: A complete directory of individual and company members is available on SAHRA's website, and is only available to active SAHRA members. All members also receive SAHRA's monthly e-newsletter which reports on recent and upcoming events and well as topics of interest to the HR community.
  • Annual Survey Results: Each year, SAHRA conducts a Compensation and Benefits survey of organizations within the southwest Missouri area. Results are available to all participants at no charge.
  • Professional Membership Credit: SHRM and HRCI recognize the value of joining the wider community of HR professionals by becoming a member of SHRM or of other HR-related organizations. Your membership in SAHRA earns recertification PDCs for both SHRM and HRCI.

Q. Who is eligible to join SAHRA?

A. Regular SAHRA membership can be granted to HR practitioners (both exempt and non-exempt), vendors and consultants who serve HR professionals, employment/labor attorneys, and academicians. Other types of membership are available for students, and individuals who do not qualify for membership in other categories but have an interest in HR. There are specific requirements in each category which can be found in the SAHRA By-Laws. Memberships are not transferable, and remain with the individual it was originally assigned to, exempt in the case of Corporate Memberships.

Q. What are the monthly meetings like?

A. Monthly meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.. Meetings typically include a speaker who discusses a topic relevant to the HR professional and a buffet lunch. When possible, speakers are pre-certified for SHRM and HRCI recertification credit.

Q. What opportunities are there for professional development?

A. In addition to the professional development that occurs at monthly meetings (see question above), SAHRA hold one half-day and one full-day professional development event annually. These events are generally certified for HRCI and SHRM recertification credit and cover topics relevant to the HR profession.
