How to "Get a Seat at the Table"

For HR to "get a seat at the table" and be recognizedas a strategic partner to the business, the following are key principles:

  • Demonstrate ROI by making direct connect ions to firm profitability and growth. ( i.e. A recruiter having an impact on profit by hi ring client service professionals who bringin billable hours)
  • Be the leader and advocate for a "Symphonic C-Suite"
  • Make an investment in TRULY knowing how thebusiness works (i.e. Knowing how an audit works and what drives business growth)
  • Connect people programs to strategic objectives
  • Strategically build relationships

Learning Objectives

  2. Connect HR initiatives to profitability and growth
  3. Understand the concept of a Symphonic C-Suite
  4. Develop an action plan for relationship building

 

Julie Cummings from BKD will be presenting and coordinating Table Talks on How to demonstrate HR's Value and Elevate it's Worth your organization.

CEOs are beginning to understand they can no longer consider HR as a back-office function. They are realizing that in order to better impact their bottom line, they must invest in their people. They can no longer create budgets without including employees. Salaries are a huge expense already, so why not ensure you're getting a return on investment by providing your employees a happy place to work.  Addressing such changes head-on is vital to ensuring the business is attractive to the top talent that will drive future success and growth. HR is essential to this process, constantly working to improve the quality of talent, productivity, and keeping governance and reporting functions aligned, all whilst increasing business impact.


To gain the recognition and support it deserves from the CEO suite, the HR department needs to ensure it is proactively aligning itself with wider business interests.

Presenter: Julie Cummings, SPHR, SHRM-SCP - Managing Director, Chief Human Resources Officer

Julie serves as BKD’s chief human resources officer and is responsible for leading the firm’s PeopleFirst strategic initiatives. This includes the acquisition of top talent, performance management, engagement of firm members, total rewards, employee relations, compliance and diversity.


She has more than 20 years of experience in human resources, with experience in manufacturing and distribution and financial services as well as in professional services. She has led organizations through significant strategic changes such as switching insurance carriers and brokers, HRIS systems, compensation practices, coaching and feedback and performance and has served an integral role in mergers and acquisitions.


Julie is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management where she holds the Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation. She also holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) designation from the HR Certification Institute®. She is committed to her professional career and lifelong learning and has dedicated herself to advancing the human resources profession by serving in a variety of leadership positions for local and state HR associations as well as mentoring young professionals launching their HR career. She has received recognition with the Springfield Business Journal’s Top HR Professional of the Year and Most Influential Women awards.


She currently serves as chair for the P20 Council, which connects K-12 education and business community leaders in an effort to better prepare our youth for life after school. She previously served on the board of Court Appointed Special Advocates.


Julie is a graduate of Missouri State University, Springfield, with an M.B.A. degree.
